Psychotherapy or Counseling Therapy
Psychotherapy is sometimes also referred to as Counseling Therapy or Talk Therapy. A Counselor may be defined as one who helps individuals identify problems and crises and encourage them to take positive steps to resolve them in a more short term relationship. A Psychotherapist may be defined as one who helps individuals with psychological issues and problems, that may have been built up over a period of time, to cognitively explore their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors relating to the issues or problems they present. Psychotherapy is usually a longer process as it addresses emotional issues and the background to the issues presented. The practice of Psychotherapy/Counseling Therapy is based on the premise that each person may already have the solution within themselves, but is sometimes unable to focus on or recognize it because of strong emotional reactions or attachments at the time. The following are some categories that are usually addressed with Psychotherapy/Counseling Therapy:
- Trauma Related Issues
- Depressive & Anxiety Disorders
- Individual Counseling
- Couples Counseling
- Family Counseling
- Grief Counseling
- Work Life Issues & Career Changes
- People Living with Cancer (for clients diagnosed within the last 6 months, and their caregivers)
